Remnants of Home
36W x 24H

Purchased in 1947, this house was my family home until the late 1970’s. Due to the rapidly changing conditions in Detroit, Michigan, it was no longer a safe place to live. Today, my neighborhood stands abandoned and forgotten. Despite its current condition, I wanted to create an art piece that honors the strength and courage of my family who called this house a home for so many years.

Hand dyed and commercial fabric, raw edge appliqué, variegated and solid thread, domestic machine sewn and mounted on linen covered stretched canvas
